Weekly Report 10/08/14 – 10/14/14

ITEMS OF INTEREST:
Hunting season is upon us. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office extends its wishes to all hunters for a safe and successful season. We all know that safety while hunting is of the greatest importance, but the steps we take ahead of time are equally vital to ensuring a safe hunt.
Be sure that your firearm or bow is cleaned an in proper working order. If you are using a firearm, ensure that you have the proper ammunition. All hunters should carry a compass and safety whistle. Even if you are only planning on hunting for a short period of time, carrying some supplies with you is always a good idea. At the very least, some water and non-perishable foods (such as dried fruit or granola bars) should be included in your day pack. A simple first-aid kit is also a necessity.
The best preventative measure you can take very well may be leaving a note. Be sure that someone who lives with you, or who is close to you, knows where you are hunting. Leave a note detailing the place you plan to start out and how far you plan to go. It’s a good idea to say when you will be leaving and when you expect to be back.
