Weekly Report May 16, 2014 to May 22, 2014

During this time the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to 47 calls for service. The following notable complaints were received:

Deputy Dennis Worcester responded to a burglary complaint in Lubec. It was reported that a residence had been forcibly entered and items stolen. Investigation continues in this matter.

Corporal Chris Donahue assisted in a forensic interview of an alleged sexual assault victim.

A request to remove a subject from a residence in Harrington was received by Deputy Dennis Worcester. As a result of this investigation, one adult male was arrested and charged with a violation of condition of release. The male subject was transported to the Washington County Jail.

A resident in the Town of Jonesport reported a complaint of alleged tampering with a motor vehicle. Deputy Dennis Worcester responded and continues to investigate this incident.

Deputy Steven Ramsey responded to a complaint in the Town of Princeton. The complainant reported that the fuel line connected to his residence had been cut and the propane tank had been taken. Deputy Ramsey continues his investigation into this matter.

A business in the Town of Columbia Falls reported a theft of money. Deputy Dennis Worcester responded to the complaint. Subsequently, the money was recovered and one adult male was arrested. The male suspect was then transported to the Washington County Jail charged with Theft By Unauthorized Taking or Transfer.

Deputy Dennis Perry investigated a theft of money and medication from several students in the Edmunds Township area. Several interviews were conducted and this investigation continues.

Several complaints were received regarding possible scams. Some of the tactics used were distribution of counterfeit checks along with telephone solicitations claiming that individuals had won prizes. Please cautious about providing any personal information to unknown individuals.

WEEKLY REPORT May 9, 2014 to May 15, 2014

During this time the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to 100 calls for service. There were 50 false emergency 911 hang-ups and security alarms received during this period. The following notable complaints were received:

Lieutenant Timothy Tabbutt arrested a male from Columbia Falls on two active warrants issued from Hancock County.

A report of a motor vehicle accident in the Town of Cherryfield was received by Lt. Timothy Tabbutt. As a result of the investigation, two male subjects were arrested and transported to the Washington County Jail. One male was charged with Operating Under the Influence and the other male was charged with a Violation of Conditional Release.

Sergeant Brandon Parker responded to an attempted burglary to a residence in Harrington. It was reported that a porch door had been damaged, but no entry was made. Investigation continues into this complaint.

Deputy Dennis Worcester conducted bail compliance check on a male residing in the Jonesport area. A urine screen was conducted which tested positive for prohibited substance. The male subject was arrested for Violating Condition of Release and transported to the Washington County Jail.

Lieutenant Timothy Tabbutt located and arrested a female in the Columbia Falls on a warrant for Failure to Appear. The female subject was transported to the Washington County Jail.

A complaint in Alexander of an alleged assault was received by Corporal Christopher Donahue. The altercation involved a father and adult daughter. As a result of this investigation the male was arrested and transported to the Washington County Jail where he was charged with Domestic Violence Assault.

While investigating a complaint in Danforth of missing tires, Deputy Steven Ramsey ascertained that the complainant had an active warrant of arrest. Deputy Ramsey arrested the male subject and transported him to the Washington County Jail.

Sergeant Brandon Parker responded to a complaint in Cherryfield where it was reported by a homeowner that a shed had been entered and there was evidence that a fire had been started inside the shed. An investigation into this matter continues.

Lieutenant Timothy Tabbutt responded to a motorcycle accident in Day Block Township. The male operator lost control and was ejected from the motorcycle. Emergency medical services were dispatched and the victim was transported by Life Flight to Eastern Maine Medical Center. No further information is available at this time.

May 17, 2014 - The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is in a state of great shock and mourning at the unexpected death today of Chief Deputy Shawn Donahue. Chief Deputy Donahue, 41, was with his family when he passed away due to natural causes. During his nineteen-year career in law enforcement, Chief Deputy Donahue held many patrol and administrative positions, including Chief of Police of the Baileyville Police Department. He became Chief Deputy of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office in January, 2013. Funeral arrangements will be announced in the coming days.

WEEKLY REPORT May 2, 2014 to May 8, 2014

During this time the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to 92 calls for service. There were 56 false emergency 911 hang-ups and security alarms received during this period. The following notable complaints were received:

Deputy Steven Ramsey responded to a complaint in Robbinston where a camp owner reported that his camp had been vandalized. As a result of the investigation, four subjects were summons for various crimes including criminal mischief, criminal trespass and unsworn falsification.

Lieutenant Timothy Tabbutt received a complaint of a domestic violence assault in Harrington. The female parties involved were a mother and daughter. No charges were filed in this incident.

A complaint was received by Deputy Dennis Worcester involving a pickup truck partially submerged in the water at Schoodic Lake. No subjects were present at the scene, although the vehicle owner was identified. A tow truck was called and the vehicle was recovered from the lake. Investigation continues.

Deputy Dennis Worcester responded to a complaint in Harrington where it was alleged that a camp had been burglarized. After interviewing several subjects, the complaint was found to be a civil matter.

Deputy Steve Ramsey received a theft and criminal mischief complaint in the Town of Princeton. The complainant reported that seven street signs had been stolen and the sign poles had been damaged. The Town of Princeton is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. This investigation continues.

An assault complaint was reported in Cherryfield involving two female subjects. The complainant alleged that another female had attempted to choke her with a cord along with being threatened with a knife. Deputy Dennis Worcester responded to the call also assisting with this investigation were Lt. Travis Willey and the Milbridge Police Department. As a result, a female subject was transported to the Washington County Jail and charged with Domestic Violence Assault.

Weekly Report April 25, 2014 to May 1, 2014

During this time the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to 106 calls for service. There were 39 false emergency 911 hang-ups and security alarms received during this period. The following notable complaints were received:

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Maine State Police participated in a joint operation targeting OUI enforcement in our county. This operation included general patrol and sobriety checkpoints.

Several deputies responded to a complaint of an underage drinking in East Machias. As a result of this investigation, five underage subjects were summoned for Minor Possessing Liquor. Also with one adult female was arrested and transport to the Washington County Jail charged with Allowing Minor to Possess or Consume Liquor.

A report of a stolen vehicle from a location in Machias was received by Machias Police Department. Sergeant Brandon Parker was patrolling in the Jonesboro area and met a vehicle matching the description of the sought vehicle. Sgt. Parker stopped the vehicle which had four individuals inside. Several deputies responded to the scene resulting in a male and female occupant being arrested on several charges and both were transported to the Washington County Jail.

Sergeant Ralph Pineo conducted a bail check in reference to drug court compliance conditions on two subjects in Cherryfield and Steuben. Both subjects were found to be in compliance with all conditions.

Lieutenant Timothy Tabbutt was assisted by Deputy Dennis Worcester in Addison where an individual was issued two summonses for Violation of Bail and Unlawful Trafficking Schedule W Drug.

Deputy Steven Ramsey responded to a report in Pembroke where a resident reported the theft of a telephone handset and a gray African parrot. Investigation continues in this case.

A complaint was reported in the Town of Machiasport where a residence had been burglarized and copper piping had been stolen. Deputy Dennis Worcester is continuing with the investigation into this incident.

Sergeant Brandon Parker is investigating the theft of two solar batteries from a shed at a summer residence in Whiting. Investigation continues in this case.

Lieutenant Travis Willey issued a summons to a subject for failing to comply with the state sex offender registry.

A joint operation in Princeton including law enforcement officers from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Maine State Police, Indian Township Police and Border Patrol affected the apprehension of a male subject on four warrants out of Maine. Suspect was arrested and transported to the Washington County Jail.

Deputy Steven Ramsey responded to Penniman Pond in Day Block Township where it was reported that two propane tanks had been stolen from a cottage. Investigation continues in this case.

Weekly Report April 18, 2014 to April 24, 2014

During this time the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to 76 calls for service. There were 36 false emergency 911 hang-ups received during this period.

Please use care when handling telephone devices, as false 911 calls place much strain on law enforcement resources. The following notable complaints were received:

Deputy Dennis Perry responded to a motor vehicle accident in Milbridge. Caller reported that he had received minor damage to his vehicle due to striking a deer. The animal was still alive and Deputy Perry assisted in dispatching the injured animal.

A complaint of harassment was received by Sgt. Brandon Parker. Sgt. Parker investigated this complaint and no charges have been filed at this time.

Corporal Gregory Sawyer was assisted by Lieutenant Timothy Tabbutt in the Town of Lubec where it was reported that an individual with a firearm was acting in a threatening manner toward a neighbor. This case remains under investigation.

While patrolling in the Edmunds Township area Lieutenant Travis Willey encountered an unregistered motor vehicle being operated by male subject. While conducting the vehicle stop, Lt. Willey discovered that the male driver’s right to operate a motor vehicle was under suspension. The vehicle was towed from the scene while the male operator was arrested and transported to the Washington County Jail.

Lieutenant Timothy Tabbutt conducted a bail checks in Marshfield and Jonesport. Both subjects were found to be in compliance with their bail conditions.

Corporal Gregory Sawyer was assisted by Deputy Richard Rolfe and K9 Stryker in a search of a residence in Perry. No charges at this time.

Deputy Dennis Worcester responded to a complaint from an individual who had been allegedly threatened by a male suspect with a knife. After interviewing all individuals involved, no charges were filed.

A complaint in Cherryfield of a fight in progress was received by Deputy Dennis Worcester and assisted by Lieutenant Timothy Tabbutt. An investigation was conducted and a warning of disorderly conduct was issued.

Deputy Dennis Worcester responded to a complaint in the Town of Cherryfield. Deputy Worcester discovered at the residence a female who had an outstanding warrant of arrest. The female was arrested and transported to the Washington County Jail.

Deputy Dennis Worcester and Sergeant Brandon Parker responded to a complaint in the Town of Machiasport. It was reported that someone was attempting to break into a home while the residents were inside. This matter remains under investigation.

Lieutenant Timothy Tabbutt responded to a theft complaint in the Town of Addison. The victim alleged that three of his pigs had been stolen. Lt. Tabbutt was able to locate the pigs and a summons for Theft By Unauthorized Taking or Transfer was issued to the defendant.

Deputy Dennis Worcester responded to an assault complaint in Lubec. The male victim received cuts and scrapes during the altercation. A male subject was arrested and transported to the Washington County Jail where he was then issued a summons for assault.

Deputy Dennis Worcester received a complaint of an alleged assault in Dennysville involving two male juveniles. Case remains open at this time.

Corporal Gregory Sawyer investigated a burglary complaint in Princeton. A subject reported that a seasonal residence had been forcibly entered and several items were missing including a television and fishing poles. This investigation is ongoing.

Sergeant Brandon Parker responded to a domestic disturbance in Jonesport involving two sisters. This case remains open at this time.
