10-7-2014 Strout truck crash -- Harrington

On 10-7-2014 at approximately 0707 hours the Washington County Region Communications Center took a report of a 2 vehicle serious injury crash on US Route 1A in Harrington by the VFW hall. Deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, The Maine Marine Patrol, the State Police, Pleasant River Ambulance, the Harrington and Addison Fire Departments, and the Milbridge Police Department responded.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Mr. Michael G. Strout (DOB 5-3-1961) of Milbridge was operating a 2000 Chevy pickup truck and traveling east on US Route 1A in Harrington. Mr. Stephen S. Robinson (DOB 9-2-1968) also of Milbridge, was operating a 2014 Peterbuilt truck for Mark Wright Disposal and was traveling west.

Mr. Strout’s pickup truck crossed the center line of the roadway and struck the Peterbuilt truck nearly head on. Mr. Strout was then pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency personnel. Mr. Strout also had his juvenile son with him in the truck. His son was not hurt, but was transported to Down East Community Hospital as a precaution. Mr. Robinson was not hurt in the collision. Both vehicles suffered extensive damage.

The cause of the accident and reasons why Mr. Strout crossed the centerline remain under investigation by investigators from the Sheriff’s Office. Mr. Strout was not wearing a seat belt. His son and Mr. Robinson were reported to have been wearing their seat belts. Speed does not appear to be a factor in the collision.
