Whiting -- Single motor vehicle fatal crash 6-27-2014

At approximately 5:45 this morning R.C.C. took a call of a single motor vehicle crash
on Rt 1 in Whiting. A 2003 Buick Rendezvous was being operated by (47year old) Thomas Tibbs
of Calais.
Tibbs lost control of the vehicle after going off the shoulder, the vehicle struck an embankment
and rolled over several times. Tibbs was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the
scene.
Sgt. Ralph Pineo, Dep. Blain Silk and Dep. Dennis Perry were assisted at the scene by Machias Ambulance
and Whiting Fire dept.,

Press Release 6-23-2014 Domestic Assault

On 6-23-2014 Deputy Dennis Perry and Border Patrol responded to a domestic assault on Springfield Road in Danforth. David Boyington of Danforth 38 assaulted his girlfriend at their residence.

Boyington fled the scene and was believed to be armed with a firearm. Boyington was later apprehended after a brief standoff at the residence of David Cobb.

He was transported to Washington County Jail and charged with Domestic Violence Assault, Criminal Threatening and Terrorizing.

Several units from the Washington County Sheriffs Office and Border Patrol responded to the scene.

Weekly Report June 6, 2014 to June 12, 2014

During this time the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to 59 calls for service. The following notable complaints were received:

Deputy Blaine Silk was assisted by Lieutenant Timothy Tabbutt in the Town of Milbridge where a male subjected was arrested and transported to the Washington County Jail. The male was charged with numerous offenses including Burglary, Aggravated Assault and Violating Condition of Release.

Sergeant Brandon Parker was assisted by Deputy Blaine Silk with a complaint in the Town of Lubec. As a result of this investigation, one male subject was arrested and transported to the Washington County Jail. He was charged with Burglary and Domestic Violence Assault. In addition to this arrest, one other male subject was issued a summons for Burglary. This investigation is continuing and additional charges may be brought.

Lieutenant Timothy Tabbutt responded to a complaint in Beddington. It was reported that some bee hives that had been placed on a blueberry field had been disturbed. It was further discovered that someone had placed a “pollen catcher” inside the hives which would collect the pollen off the bees. Lt. Tabbutt continues to investigate this matter.

A male subject having an active warrant for his arrest along with bail conditions was believed to be residing in the Town of Addison. Lt. Timothy Tabbutt stopped a vehicle in connection with locating the wanted subject. He was able to ascertain that moments earlier, the male had been dropped off in front of a residence and had run through a field into the woods. Lt. Tabbutt along with other assisting officers set up a perimeter of the area. A handler and K9 from the Maine State Police was contacted to assist with locating the wanted subject. The K9 was able to track the male subject to a beach area where the male was arrested and then transported to the Washington County Jail.

Deputy Steven Ramsey responded to a traffic accident in the Town of Danforth. This accident involved a fully loaded cement truck which had rolled over. The driver of the truck had to be extricated from the vehicle. Injuries received by the driver are unknown, but not believed to be life threatening.

Deputy Steven Ramsey is investigating a theft in the Town of Princeton. It was reported by a resident that several items had been stolen including a gun, generator and some torches. This investigation is continuing.

Pembroke Burglers Suspects Arrested

On or about 6-16-2014 at approximately 1842 hours Sgt. Brandon Parker was dispatched to a report of a Burglary and Theft on the Garnett Head Road in Pembroke. It was reported that a care taker for the property had discovered a garage that had been broken into and a riding mower and some other items had been stolen. Sgt. Brandon Parker and Dep. Dennis Perry from the Sheriff’s Office where able to identify potential suspects through further investigation. Within a couple of hours they were able to recover the stolen riding mower, a battery charger, and extension cord from a residence in Pleasant Point. They were also assisted by the Pleasant Point Police Department. The investigation then continued today (6-17-2014). Through further investigation by Lt. Travis Willey, Sgt. Brandon Parker, and Dep. Dennis Perry 2 primary suspects were identified and placed under arrest for the burglary and theft.

First Mr. Clifford Mitchell (1-28-1948) from Pleasant Point was arrested and charged with Felony level Burglary class B and Felony level Theft class C. Mr. Mitchell’s truck was also impounded by the Sheriff’s Office as part of the investigation. Next through efforts of the Sheriff’s Office, Pleasant Point Police Department, and Eastport Police Department the second subject was taken into custody. Mr. Bradley Sapiel (6-4-1979) from Charlotte was also arrested and charged with Felony Level Burglary class B and Felony Level Theft class C. Both subjects were transported to the Washington County Jail. Both Sapiel and Mitchell were able to make bail and have bailed out of jail with conditions of release. Booking photos are attached.

Weekly Report May 30, 2014 to June 5, 2014

During this time the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to 71 calls for service. The following notable complaints were received:

Deputy Steven Ramsey received a complaint in Baileyville where a motel door had been forcibly opened and entry had been made into the room. This case remains open and the investigation is continuing.

Deputy Timothy Carter responded to a complaint in Vanceboro where it was reported that damaged had been discovered at a local cemetery. Several leads are being followed along with evidence being collected. The investigation continues in this matter.

A report of remnants of a possible meth lab was reported in the town of Danforth. Deputy Timothy Carter collected the evidence and is continuing the investigation with assistance of Corporal Gregory Sawyer.

A complaint of criminal trespass in the town of Beals is being investigated by Deputy Blaine Silk. The complainant reported that a locked rental property had been entered and the burner on a propane stove has been turned on and left. The investigation continues in this matter.

Deputy Dennis Worcester responded to a report of a burglary at a residence in Machiasport. It was reported that several electronic items were taken along with cash. This investigation is continuing.

Deputy Dennis Worcester received information which lead to the recovery of a stolen boat gas tank which was reported stolen in December 2013 from a residence in Machiasport.

A complainant who was mowing grass at a cemetery in Jonesport reported that while the complainant left for lunch their lawn mower and gas can were stolen. Sergeant Brandon Parker is investigating this matter.



While patrolling in the Marshfield area, Deputy Dennis Perry encountered two vehicles travelling at a high rate of speed. Deputy Perry was assisted by the Machias Police Department in stopping the vehicles. As a result, two young adult males were arrested and transported to the Washington County Jail, where they each received a summons for Criminal Speeding.

Assault & Possible Burglary -- Lubec

n 6-9-14 Sgt Parker was called to Lubec for a report of assault and possible burglary. Upon further investigation after stopping the suspect vehicle, Jason Hawkins 31 years old of East Machias was charged with 2 burglaries and domestic assault. Joshua Lanning 38 years old of Bangor was charged with 2 burglaries. Robert Grant 19 years old of East Machias was charged with burglary. Patrick Hatch 19 years old of Trescott was charged with burglary.Sgt Parker recovered numerous items of the burglary but some items are still unaccounted for including a pistol. Drugs and alcohol were involved. Hawkins and Lanning remain at the Washington County Jail as of Wednesday morning. The investigation continues.

Weekly Report May 23, 2014 to May 29, 2014

During this time the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to 47 calls for service. The following notable complaints were received:

Several complaints were received from residents in the Town of Addison who complained that their mailboxes had been stolen or damaged. Deputy Dennis Worcester responded to these complaints. While investigating these thefts, Deputy Worcester received information that three mailboxes had been discovered hanging from the bridge in Beals Island. These mailboxes were identified to be stolen from Addison and have been returned to the owners. Investigation into this matter is continuing.

While patrolling in Whitneyville, Lieutenant Travis Willey encountered some juveniles who had been consuming alcohol. As a result, two male juveniles were issued summons for charges of Illegal Possession of Liquor by Minor and Furnishing a Place for Minors to Possess/Consume Liquor.

Sergeant Ralph Pineo responded to a complaint of a motor vehicle accident in Baring Plantation. As a result, one adult female was arrested and charged with Operating Under the Influence.

A complaint of a residential burglary in the Town of Pembroke is being investigated by Sergeant Ralph Pineo.

Deputy Adam Davis responded to a complaint of a stolen firearm in the Town of Jonesboro. Deputy Davis conducted an investigation which resulted in the recovery of the stolen firearm. A male subject has been charged with Theft By Unauthorized Taking or Transfer and he was transported to the Washington County Jail.

Deputy Adam Davis received a complaint in Marshfield, where it was reported that a mailbox had been damaged. Deputy Davis responded to the residence and interviewed the complainant. After leaving the residence, Deputy Davis discovered several other mailboxes in the area had also been damaged. Investigation continues into the matter.

Sergeant Brandon Parker responded to a motor vehicle accident in Whiting. As a result of his investigation, one adult male was arrested and transported to the Washington County Jail where he was issued a summons for Operating Under the Influence.
A theft complaint in the Town of Lubec is being investigated by Sergeant Ralph Pineo. The complainant reported that several feet of copper tubing connected to a propane tank at a summer residence had been stolen.

It was report of a burglary in the Town of Milbridge is being investigated by Deputy Dennis Worcester. The owners discovered that a flat screen television had been stolen. Investigations are continuing on this matter.

While conducted further investigation into a theft complaint, Deputy Adam Davis discovered that a subject that he planned to interview had two active warrants for arrest. Deputy Davis located the female subject, who he arrested on the warrants and transported to the Washington County Jail.
