On Sunday, May 26, 2013, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of an incident on the Ayers Junction Road in Charlotte. The report came from the Calais Regional Hospital. Deputy Ryan Allen responded to the hospital and discovered a 35 year old man had arrived at the hospital with an unresponsive 5 year old male. The medical personnel at Calais Regional Hospital was unable to revive the boy. The boy was pronounced dead at the hospital. After a preliminary investigation deputies discovered, Calvin James of Charlotte, was working in his yard when he was backing a vehicle up and his 5 year old son Trent James was struck. Mr. James quickly moved his son to his vehicle and transported him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Although every indication of the initial investigation appears to be an accident, this investigation is continuing and is expected to take some time. Our hearts go out to the James family. Deputy Allen was assisted by Lt. Tim Tabbutt. Please direct all questions to Chief Deputy Shawn Donahue at chief@wcsheriffsoffice.com .
